Richard Sandor
CEO, Environmental Financial Products

Emissions trading innovator

A native of Brooklyn and an economist, Richard Sandor is considered the father of financial futures. His carreer has taken him from the University lecture halls to senior positions at Kidder, Peabody, Drexel Burnham Lambert and Banque Indosuez. He designed the creation of a sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions market and has presided over its launch as a member of the Chicago Board of Trade in 1991. In 1993, he founded a consulting and trading firm, which specializes in the creation of environmental financial products.

Richard Sandor is involved in all the major initiatives: the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and in studies by the UN to create a global market for greenhouse gases. Recently, the Joyce Foundation has awarded him with a US$ 347,000 grant to design the foundations for a carbon market in the Midwest.
